FDA to resume high-risk food inspections today
On Monday, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb announced that the agency would resume inspections of high-risk foods such as dairy products, infant formula, and fresh produce. Approximately 150 furloughed employees will be brought back to begin inspections as early as today. These employees will still be unpaid, however, as the government shutdown which began on December 22nd goes on without an end in sight.
We re-starting high risk food inspections as early as tomorrow. We'll also do compounding inspections this week. And we started sampling high risk imported produce in the northeast region today. We'll expand our footprint as the week progresses. Our teams are working.— Scott Gottlieb, M.D. (@SGottliebFDA) January 14, 2019
